The New York State Police have identified the victims involved in a devastating two-car collision that occurred on Friday, July 19, 2024, on Interstate 86 eastbound in the town of Chemung.
The accident, which occurred around 4:51 p.m., claimed the lives of three individuals from the region. Steven A. Mallory, aged 36, of Horseheads, N.Y., Colin J. Ferrell, aged 18, and Tiffany Ferrell, aged 44, both from Endicott, N.Y., were pronounced deceased at the scene, according to authorities.
Preliminary investigations by the State Police indicated that the collision involved a 2018 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on I-86, operated by a 36-year-old male driver.
For reasons under investigation, the Nissan crossed over the median into the eastbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2015 Acura RDX.
The Acura was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and a 44-year-old female passenger, who tragically lost their lives in the crash. The scene of the accident prompted a rapid response from multiple emergency services and law enforcement agencies.
The New York State Police were joined by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Department of Transportation, Chemung Fire Department, Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services, and Wellsburg Fire Department, all of whom worked tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the collision and assist those involved.
