A “large rock” has been found at the scene of an accident on Highway 1 that sent a motorist to the hospital in critical condition, according to Metro Vancouver police.

The car’s windshield was broken by a “unknown object” early on Thursday morning, according to a statement made by the Burnaby RCMP.

It happened about 11:24 a.m., according to the Mounties, close to Burnaby’s Willingdon exit.

Officers from the Highway Patrol had been looking for the item.

Witnesses and dashcam footage from the collision are being sought by the police.

Later on Thursday, there was no news about the driver’s condition.
