Aaron Pelletier, U.S Trooper Struck And Killed By A Truck While Conducting Traffic Stop


On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier was conducting a traffic stop on I-84 East close to Exit 31 in Southington when he was struck and killed by a truck. Trooper Pelletier stopped a car on the highway’s right shoulder at 2:45 p.m. while driving a cruiser with his emergency equipment engaged.

Tragic Night: What Happened? 

A truck went over the center line into the shoulder lane, sideswiped his cruiser, and hit him as he was talking to the driver of the vehicle. The driver took off in the car and was found in a wooded area some five miles away. With great sadness, we must notify you of the passing of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier. Trooper Pelletier died right away. When the cruiser was hit, his dog, Roso, was inside, but he was unharmed.

After being taken into custody, the subject was accused of avoiding accountability for a fatal collision, operating a motor vehicle illegally while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, failing to drive in the correct lane, second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, failing to yield, and operating a vehicle illegally without a driver’s license.
Trooper Pelletier was a nine-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police, serving with Troop H in Hartford. His spouse and two kids survive him. He’ll be missed greatly.
