Renowned New York singer and songwriter Angela Bofill has passed away. She died at the age of 70 on Thursday 13th June 2024 surrounded by her beloved family.

She was confirmed dead through a post made on Friday that reads “Got a call about the passing of singer Angela Bofill.

She passed on yesterday morning. Didn’t want to post until her family made the official announcement.” The actual cause of Angela Bofill’s death has not been released.

Angela Tomasa Bofill, a renowned singer-songwriter of Cuban-Puerto Rican origins, has left an indelible mark on the music industry with a career spanning over four decades.

A New York native, Bofill began her professional journey in the mid-1970s and is celebrated for her soulful hits such as “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter,” “Angel of the Night,” and “I Try.” Born on May 2, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York City, Angela Bofill was the daughter of a Cuban father and a Puerto Rican mother.

Her family later moved to The Bronx, where she was immersed in a rich tapestry of Latin music. From an early age, Bofill was also inspired by African-American performers, which added a unique blend to her musical influences.

Bofill’s weekends were dedicated to studying classical music and singing in the prestigious New York City’s All City Chorus.

This ensemble brought together the finest singers from high schools across the five boroughs, providing Bofill with a strong foundation in vocal performance. She attended Hunter College High School, graduating in 1972, and later pursued her passion for music at the Manhattan School of Music, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in 1976.

Angela Bofill’s professional career began during her teenage years, performing with groups like Ricardo Marrero & the Group and the Dance Theater of Harlem chorus.

Her big break came when jazz flutist Dave Valentin introduced her to Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen of GRP Records. Impressed by her talent, Grusin and Rosen signed Bofill and produced her debut album, *Angie*, in 1978.
