The RCMP’s underwater recovery team helped remove a second 24-year-old male from the water the following day (Tuesday), who also passed away at the scene from his injuries, according to Cpl. Hans Ouellette. “Both individuals are citizens of India and at this time police do not believe criminality to be a factor in the deaths.”
According to Elgin Fire Chief Kent Steeves, they got a call about two persons who might be in the water at 3:26 p.m. on Monday, according to CTV News.
“Gordon Falls is a stunning location. Although many individuals like visiting for the scenic views, Steeves cautioned that the area is perilous. “Those are steep cliffs. Limited access both inside and outside. The cliffs are fairly steep, and jumping is the easiest way in. There is always a small risk when swimming there.”
According to Steeves, a few people have died at Gordon Falls over the years. There have been numerous injuries and injuries that we have brought up from there, but the last fatality was a few years ago,” he stated. “There is a lot of rock face, some of which is smooth, making it difficult to gain any traction or footing to climb back up.” Steeves said that in addition to the RCMP and Ambulance New Brunswick, firefighters from Sussex and Petitcodiac were also present on the scene on Monday.
