Guifarro Melvin Palacio Ejected from Vehicle as Honda Civic Loses Control and Crashes into Chevrolet Malibu on I-91 – Celebsity

North Haven, CT – A tragic accident on Interstate 91 on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, claimed the life of 32-year-old New Haven resident, Guifarro Melvin Palacio.

The incident, which took place at approximately 5:40 p.m. near Exit 9, has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to reports from the Connecticut State Police, the collision involved two vehicles: a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2006 Honda Civic.

The driver of the Malibu was traveling in the left lane of I-91 North, while the Civic was in the left lane of I-91 South, moving in the opposite direction.

The Civic’s driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the grass median that separates the northbound and southbound lanes. After striking a metal beam guardrail, the Civic collided head-on with the Malibu in the northbound median.

The force of the impact led to the tragic death of Guifarro Melvin Palacio, who was a front-seat passenger in the Honda Civic. Palacio was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, a devastating consequence that underscores the importance of seatbelt use in every journey, no matter how short or long.

Despite immediate medical intervention, Palacio was pronounced dead at Yale-New Haven Hospital shortly after the accident.

Both drivers involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to the hospital for treatment, and their current conditions have not been disclosed.

The accident has sparked an ongoing investigation by local authorities, who are working diligently to piece together the events that led to this fatal outcome.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with any witnesses who may have seen the crash or have information that could shed light on the moments leading up to the collision. State Trooper Patrick Miko is leading the investigation and has urged anyone with relevant details to come forward.

Witnesses are encouraged to contact Trooper Miko directly at 203-393-4200 or via email at Patrick.Miko@ct.gov.

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the critical importance of road safety, especially on highways where speeds are higher, and the margin for error is smaller.

While the exact cause of the Civic’s loss of control is still under investigation, the accident highlights the need for drivers to remain vigilant at all times, particularly when navigating high-speed roadways like Interstate 91.
