Hannah Shaffer Death Carlisle IA: Carlisle HS student died, 2 injured in Warren County accident


One died and two were injured after a horrific car accident that happened last night in Warren County. One of the fatalities has been identified as 15-year-old Hannah Shaffer, a native of Carlisle, Iowa. According to responding authorities at the scene, Carlisle High School student Hannah Shaffer died, while two other victims, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were injured.

“It’s really sad for Carlisle,” said Milton Martinez, Jr., who lives nearby. “It would be really difficult. I have five children. And anyone of mine you know in any kind of deal like this would be horrible, “Martinez stated.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that on Sunday night, a Toyota Camry Solara was travelling north on 200th Avenue in Warren County. Near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and 200th Avenue, the car went into a ditch, flipped over, and two of its three occupants were ejected. After being taken to a hospital in Des Moines, one of the teenagers—a 15-year-old—was pronounced dead.

The other two passengers, a 16- and a 15-year-old, were taken to the hospital in an ambulance. At least one of the teenagers is enrolled at Carlisle High School, according to police confirmation. The school board meeting and Monday night’s baseball and softball games have been cancelled as a result.

The crash is under investigation.
