Ransom Everglades School graduate and Brown University Student-Athlete Liam O’keefe has sadly passed away. He died after a drowning accident on Friday 31st May 2024 leaving those who knew him devastated. He was a loving and caring son of Alison and Douglas and brother of Sawyer and Mac.

In the seasons of 2022-2023,  Liam Okeefe emerged as a true sailing prodigy, leaving an indelible mark on the competitive sailing circuit. His prowess on the water earned him a slew of prestigious accolades, solidifying his status as one of the most promising talents in the sport. Named an All-American Skipper in recognition of his outstanding performance, he showcased his exceptional skills as he navigated the challenging waters with finesse and precision. But his accolades didn’t stop there.

He was also named an All-NEISA First Team Skipper and NEISA Rookie of the Year, a testament to his exceptional talent and rapid ascent in the collegiate sailing ranks. Representing Brown University, he proved to be an invaluable asset to the team, playing a pivotal role in their success at various national championships. At the Open Team Race Nationals, he helped the Bears secure an impressive third-place finish, demonstrating his ability to excel under pressure and lead his team to victory.

But Liam Okeefe’s contributions weren’t limited to team racing. In the fiercely competitive arena of fleet racing, he showcased his versatility and skill, representing Brown at the Open Fleet Race Nationals and helping the team secure a commendable sixth-place finish. Furthermore, he proved his mettle in match racing, where strategic prowess and tactical acumen are paramount.

Representing Brown at the Match Race Nationals, he played a pivotal role in the team’s third-place finish, further cementing his reputation as a formidable competitor on the national stage. He didn’t just excel in national championships; he also played a crucial role in Brown’s triumphs at various prestigious events. His contributions were instrumental in Brown’s first-place finishes at the Danmark Trophy, the NEISA Match Race Championship, and the Admirals Cup, underscoring his ability to deliver results when it mattered most.

Throughout the season, hecompeted tirelessly, dedicating himself to the sport he loves and representing Brown University with unwavering commitment and passion. Competing in a total of 18 weekends for the Bears, he demonstrated his resilience, perseverance, and unmatched drive to succeed. Before his tenure at Brown, he had already established himself as a sailing sensation with an impressive array of accomplishments to his name. As a two-time Team MVP, three-time Team Race National Champion, 2019 New England Champion, and 2017 Optimist Team Racing World Champion, he had already proven himself as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
