Melisa Van Hoorne, 43-Year-Old Woman Dies after Crash with School Bus in Lancaster
Melisa Van Hoorne was killed in a school bus accident in Lancaster Friday morning on September 27.
The fatal accident happened around 7:00 a.m. on Columbia Way near 15th Street West. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a gray SUV was heading east on Columbia Way when it veered into oncoming traffic, hitting the school bus nearly head-on.
Van Hoorne was the woman driving the SUV. She suffered multiple blunt-force injuries and died at the scene. She was 43 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Meanwhile, paramedics took two other people to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
Deputies said there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver was not injured.
It is unknown if alcohol, drugs, or speed played a factor in this crash. Further investigation is underway.
