NYPD officer accused of shooting driver to death in New Jersey road rage incident

According to a statement from the Camden County prosecutor, Hieu Tran, 27, was charged on Thursday with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose. Prosecutors claimed that a New York City police officer has been charged with attempted murder after they believe he shot another man in an incident involving apparent road rage in New Jersey.

An inquiry for comments was not immediately answered by Tran’s attorney. Tran is being suspended without pay, according to the NYPD. The prosecutor’s office statement, when Voorhees Township Police Department officers arrived at the scene of a multiple-car incident on May 17 shortly after 11 p.m., they discovered that one of the drivers had been shot.

According to the statement, the 30-year-old Voorhees Township man, who is still being treated, was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Ballistics evidence, telephone records, and surveillance footage, according to the prosecution, were utilized by police to identify Tran as the gunman in the “apparent road rage incident.” Prosecutors said that Tran’s NYPD-issued gun was connected to the ballistic evidence recovered from the scene.

While awaiting extradition to New Jersey, Tran is being detained in New York. The inquiry is active and continuing, according to the prosecutor’s office.
