Manitoba Moose Ice Hockey Video Coach Richard Bue has sadly passed away. He died after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 44. He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post that reads “We regret to announce the passing of Richard Bue at the age of 44 following a battle with cancer.”

Richard has left an indelible mark on Carleton Athletics through his various important staff roles, significantly contributing to the support and development of Carleton’s student-athletes. His most renowned position was serving as the video coach for the men’s hockey team. Richard joined the team during its inaugural season, starting as the equipment manager in 2006-07 before transitioning to the coaching staff in 2012-13.

Richard’s affiliation with Carleton Athletics began remarkably early. At just 15 years old, he became the assistant equipment manager for the Ravens football team. Under the mentorship of Wayne ‘The Colonel’ Baird, Richard embarked on a journey that saw him holding numerous positions within the department, including roles in the Tuck Shop and Carleton Camps. His commitment to the Ravens was unwavering and multifaceted.

A commerce graduate, Richard’s collaboration with Baird extended beyond football. Together, they coached the Ravens women’s hockey club team from 2000 to 2003, playing a pivotal role in establishing the foundation for the program as it is known today. Their efforts were instrumental in fostering the growth and success of women’s hockey at Carleton. His influence extended beyond the walls of Carleton University. After his departure in 2016, he joined the Winnipeg Jets organization as the Video Coach for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Despite moving on to professional hockey, Richard’s legacy at Carleton endures, reflecting his enduring commitment to the athletic and personal development of student-athletes. His dedication, from his teenage years to his professional career, has left a lasting legacy at Carleton University.
