On Tuesday afternoon in Greene County, tragedy struck the community as a motorcyclist lost his life in a devastating collision involving a tractor-trailer. The incident, which occurred on Van Hill Road just before 3:30 p.m., serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance for all motorists.

How did the accident happen?

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the sequence of events leading to the fatal crash unfolded swiftly. A motorcycle, ridden by Roscoe S. Johnson, 53, was traveling southbound on Van Hill Road when a tractor-trailer attempted to make a left turn into the TA Travel Center Parking. Tragically, the tractor-trailer turned directly into the path of the motorcycle, leaving Johnson with no time to react. The collision resulted in Johnson becoming lodged underneath the trailer, sustaining critical injuries.

Emergency responders rushed Johnson to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. However, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Johnson succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a community in mourning and loved ones grappling with profound loss. He was a  proud product of the Greeneville and South Greene communities, Johnson’s educational and professional paths are woven into the fabric of East Tennessee.
