Vincent Jakawich Death, Navy aviator died by suicide after sexual abuse accusation
There are allegations against a US Navy aviator who committed suicide recently of sexually abusing a little girl who was friends with his child. The accused victim’s family is coming out to share their side of the tale. Tim and Meredith Hatchell report that their daughter just disclosed to them that she had been sexually assaulted by Vincent Jakawich, the father of one of her friends. Later, they got in touch with Virginia Beach Police.
Nevertheless, Jakawich has faced accusations before. Jakawich was charged with aggravated sexual battery with intent to cause harm to a minor under the age of thirteen in a different case that dates back to 2020. He entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor assault and battery charge in 2022 after the felony was reduced to that level. Jakawich, a member of the US Navy, did not get an active prison sentence. As per the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the charge was downgraded due to “evidence in this case that contradicted the victim’s version of events.”
His continued presence at the school following the 2022 plea has the Hatchell’s confused. Parents at St. John the Apostle School have now been informed of the new claims by the Diocese of Richmond. The principal of the school stated in a letter that there was no proof the claimed assault took place on school property.
Jakawich committed suicide in Currituck County following the release of the allegations. The Hatchell’s have not held back when discussing what they claim occurred to their daughter, even going so far as to face Jakawich’s spouse. Meredith Hatchell was then accused by his wife of three crimes, one of which was disorderly behavior.
Vincent Jakawich obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by the family at a later date.
